I finally got around to finishing this piece that I started last FALL! I just wasn't sure where it needed to go, and then I found a perfect wall paper pattern that integrated the colors and gave the time period a setting. The painting is done in oils on cradled board, and measures 12" x 24"

Well, finally started a new series that really has my interest. I've been seeking inspiration all winter, and finally, bingo. I didn't realize how much leopard print clothing I have, until I started hunting for subject matter. Recently watched a great documentary on Sally Mann, the Virginia photographer...what a prolific artist! I heard her say something that got my fire burning again.. The message was to paint what is in my daily life that I love. I love leopard.

I am back to paintng outdoors since the weather is just faculous in Virginia Here is a small hillside with the smokey Blue Ridge Mtns in the background. It is done in oils on an 8" x 9" panel.

Today I finished another plein air piece done at Crabtree Falls, VA. The weather was gorgeous, breezy and clear.
My veiwers may have noticed a stylistic change in the past few posts..it was the plein air workshops and intention to learn to paint differently that's behind it all. Over the years, I've tended to go back and forth with 'tight' vs expressionistic. So here it is again. But the 'on location' painting provides a perfect opportunity to let my brustrokes free up and dance with the light.

I finally got out in the field, literally, by about 3:00 today, and did get at least one painting done. It was HOT! Whew! I may head back to the same field tomorrow morning as it had lots of old farm equipment as well as the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Oil on 8" x 10" panel.

Persimmons again

Here are the three persimmons, finally, with a new background color. When I brought the colors contained in the fruit into the background, the whole painting came together. The painting is 12" x 18" oil on birch cradled panel.
